PAS MUKTAMAR | Aside from the customary circulation of donation bags, the 65th central PAS muktamar in Kuantan here today saw the party adopting a more novel approach to raise funds.
After concluding debates on party president Abdul Hadi Awang's presidential speech, a giant six foot three inches long lemang (a glutinous rice delicacy cooked in bamboo stalks) was brought on stage to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
At the end of the auction, PAS Kuala Nerus delegate Shukrimun Shamsudin was announced the winner with the highest bid of RM4,000.
Shukrimun received a surprise on stage, however, when he was presented with a second giant lemang for free.
Abdul Hadi presented Shukrimun with the two giant lemang each made with about 2.5kg of glutinous rice and taking about 10 hours to prepare.
"Watch behind you when you walk," quipped PAS deputy chairperson Kamal Shaari as Shukrimun walked down the stage with the two giant lemang balanced on his shoulder.
Proceeds from the auction will be channelled towards the construction of a PAS building at Pos Lanai in Cameron Highlands, Pahang. - Mkini
