GEORGE TOWN: PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali said today that gutter politics in the country could cause Pakatan Harapan to suffer from a trust deficit.
He said this when asked to comment on remarks by DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang that the sex video controversy had the “potency” to destroy the PH coalition.
Azmin, who is also economic affairs minister, said that he was undeterred in his mission to improve and rebuild the country’s economy, while supporting the prime minister’s leadership.
“We cannot allow anyone to undermine and sabotage Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s leadership, and I am here to support him and the PH leadership.
“People who are desperate, defeated, and do not have the support of the people are the ones trying to use this tactic (to hurt him),” he said.
Haziq Aziz, a divisional PKR youth leader and ministerial aide, has admitted being one of two men shown having sex in leaked videos released online. Azmin has strongly denied accusations that he was one of the two men, as alleged by Haziq.
Police have taken a statement from Haziq, who has been released on police bail pending police investigations.
Azmin would not speculate if the sex tape was the work of his own party members but he said it “warrants” an explanation from the party’s leadership.
He agreed with a suggestion from reporters that an independent party ought to investigate the matter within PKR so that it would be “very transparent”.
Earlier today, Azmin had said he wondered how the sex video had been circulated via WhatsApp to all PKR branch heads and grassroots leaders, saying he himself had no such access to their handphone numbers.
Azmin said he was complying with all authorities investigating his alleged involvement in the sex video. - FMT
