Police have arrested Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who confessed to being the person in the sex videos implicating Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali.
Federal CID chief Huzir Mohamed confirmed that the arrest took place at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at around 5.30pm this evening.
However, he refused to reveal where the Santubong PKR Youth chief is being held or respond to a question under what section Haziq was arrested under.
“A media statement will be issued later,” he told Malaysiakini.
In his confession video, Haziq had also claimed that the other person in the video clips was Azmin and that the alleged sexual encounter was recorded without his knowledge when he was with the minister in the latter's hotel room in Sandakan last month.
Azmin has described the allegation as an attempt to ruin his political career.
Meanwhile, Haziq's lawyer Ramesh Kumar said he is clueless as to the whereabouts of his client.
“When we reached here, the KLIA people (police) said Bukit Aman has taken him away. When we asked who took him away, they said it was high profile matter and refused to divulge any information.
“So I have asked the people who hired me to lodge a missing persons police report since there is no information,” he told Malaysiakini.
Ramesh said he is on the way to Bukit Aman to determine if Haziq is there.
“We need to know where he will be remanded tomorrow,” he added. - Mkini
