It’s not seditious to seek independence for Sarawak, says Parti Bumi Kenyalang

KUCHING: Parti Bumi Kenyalang’s (PBK) quest for independence for Sarawak from Putrajaya is not seditious, its president Voon Lee Shan said.
He said the Sedition Act 1948 was not used against Malaysia’s founding father Tunku Abdul Rahman when he sought independence for Malaya from Britain.
“I’m also applying the same scenario. So, how can this be seditious?” he asked at a press conference here today.
He said if the people in Peninsular Malaysia felt the party’s act of seeking independence was seditious, then that would mean they had “their own agenda”.
“It could mean that they want the revenue from our state’s resources to be continuously pumped to Putrajaya,” he said.
Moreover, he said, there was no mention in the Federal Constitution or Malaysia Agreement 1963 that Sabah and Sarawak could not exit from Malaysia. - FMT
