Umno supreme council member Lokman Noor Adam has been arrested tonight after being involved in an altercation with police who were investigating a series of sex videos purportedly implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
His special officer Faizul Ali told Malaysiakini that Lokman was detained tonight and is currently still at the Kajang police station.
The arrest was confirmed by Selangor Criminal Investigations Department chief Fadzil Ahmat.
Fadzil says that Lokman is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for the obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of public functions.
Lokman was detained along with former PKR Padang Serai MP N Gobalakrishnan, who is now an MIC Central Working Committee member.
Fadzil said that around 6.45 pm on June 13, officers and members of the Classroom Criminal Investigation Unit, Bukit Aman JSJ and Bukit Aman PDRM Forensic Forces arrived at Lokman's home.
"During the investigation, the police ordered Lokman to hand over his handphone to be inspected but he refused to cooperate and had screamed at a police officer who was performing his duties."
"Also with Lokman was an Indian man who also blocked the police whom were carrying out their duties."
"Both of them have been detained for obstructing a public servant from carrying out duties and using abusive language.
Earlier today Lokman had complained of persecution following his initial report on the series of sex videos which first surfaced on June 11.
"I made a police report against those who circulated obscene videos and those who acted in them, but today I am summoned by Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department's officer.
"They want to seize both my phones and search my home. Truly law of the jungle," he said in a brief statement this afternoon.
In two Facebook posts tonight, former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak took several jabs. In one post, he quipped that Lokman had committed the "serious crime" of being too fast to lodge a report.
Najib also posted an old video of Azmin criticising him, with the caption, "He (Azmin) used to have fun at my expense, but now he is a bit occupied with other matters".
On June 11, a series of sex videos featuring two men were sent to journalists and PKR members.
The following day, Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz claimed he was one of the two men in the video.
He also implicated Azmin as being his partner in the video.
Another video was released via WhatsApp on June 12, featuring the same men.
The minister has denied any involvement in the videos, stating that it was character assassination intended to end his political career. - Mkini
