KUANTAN: The openness of PAS in collaborating with other parties in politics does not point to a quest for power, says PAS Dewan Ulama member Mahfodz Mohamed.
He said this collaboration (taawun siyasi) between PAS and Umno was viewed as a “nightmare” by Pakatan Harapan in facing the electorate in the upcoming 15th general election.
“PAS ulama see the new openness of the party as evidence of political maturity and giving importance to Islam,” he said in his speech at the 58th PAS Muktamar in Wisma Belia Indera Mahkota today.
Mahfodz was confident the PAS-Umno collaboration would allow Malays to better champion their rights and safeguard their interests.
He said PH was aware this collaboration was a threat to them and was taking steps to divide Umno and PAS leaders.
Mahfodz said Malays formed 65% of the population and the PAS-Umno collaboration had clearly led to success in winning recent by-elections.
He also warned PAS ulama to guard against liberalism and pluralism which could wreak havoc on society.
He said the ulama were ready to guide society and prevent Muslims from deviating from the true path, based on the tenets of the Quran. - FMT
