Man slashes daughter's boyfriend when asked to repay RM30k debt


SIBU: A 52-year-old man has been detained by the police after he was reported to have slashed his future son-in-law after he was asked to repay a debt.
Sibu OCPD, Asst Comm Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said in the incident at 6.25pm on Wednesday (June 19), the complainant, 31, went to the suspect's home on Jalan Pahlwan with his girlfriend, the suspect's 28-year-old daughter.
"The complainant came to meet the suspect to discuss in a friendly manner the RM30,000 which the older man had borrowed from him in 2017.
Prior to arriving at the house, the complainant called him on the phone, but there was no response," he added.
"He swung the machete at the complainant and slashed his left hand. After that, the suspect fled," he said.
The incident was witnessed by the suspect's daughter.
ACP Stanley said the man was arrested at 4am on Thursday (June 20) at a coffeeshop on Jalan Long Bridge.
"He admitted to injuring the complainant and throwing the machete into the river near Lanang Bridge," he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons- Star
