MOVE TO PROTECT AZMIN FROM MEDICAL EXAMINATION OVER GAY SEX SCANDAL? IN STRANGE DEVELOPMENT, HAZIQ’S LAWYER SAYS NO PROBE FOR NOW – HIS CLIENT’S FREE TO TRAVEL – EVEN AS IGP SIGNALS ‘NO RUSH’ TO PROBE VIRAL VIDEO

PETALING JAYA – Police today released Haziq Aziz after he was detained overnight following his shocking claim that he and Mohamed Azmin Ali were involved in homosexual acts.
He was released at 5.45pm from the Dang Wangi police station.
His lawyers were with him when he left the station in a black Proton Persona.
Haziq’s lawyer Ramesh Sivakumar said his client had been released on police bail and will have to show up for questioning if needed.
“They initially wanted to extend his remand but later decided to release him. There is no further investigation as of now,” he said.
Ramesh added his client was happy with the treatment given by the police and “the police accorded him all the rights under the law”.
He also said that Haziq is prepared to cooperate fully with the police on the case.
According to him, Haziq was required to undergo a medical examination today at Hospital KL, which was completed at 4pm today.
Police arrested Haziq at the KLIA departure hall at 6pm yesterday.
Haziq, who is the Santubong PKR Youth chief, was scheduled to leave for Manila.
Ramesh said he did not know the reason for his client’s plan to travel to Manila. No travel restrictions have been imposed on Haziq, he added.
On Wednesday, Haziq had admitted that he was one of two men filmed engaging in homosexual acts at a hotel last month.
The private secretary of Deputy Primary Industries Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said the videos, which he claimed were recorded without his permission, were taken on May 11 at the Four Points hotel in Sandakan during the recent by-election there.
He also named Azmin, who is economic affairs minister and PKR deputy president, as the other person in the video.
Azmin has strongly denied the claim and has threatened to take legal action.
In a statement last night, CID chief Huzir Mohamed said Haziq will be investigated for carnal intercourse against the order of nature and distribution of obscene material.
Haziq will also be probed under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which criminalises the use of network facilities or network services by a person to transmit any communication that is deemed to be offensive.
“He will also be investigated for intending to provoke a breach of public peace,” he said.
No rush in investigating viral sex video case, says IGP
KANGAR: Police need time to determine whether the viral sex video implicating a minister is authentic or not, said Inspector-General of Police Abdul Hamid Bador.
He said police had not obtained any leads yet on the authenticity of the sex video clips, adding that police need time and space to investigate the case.
“For this case, I am not taking any unusual stand.
“Every report on criminal acts should be assessed first and an investigation paper will only be opened after we are confident that there are criminal elements.
“I also do not pressure the investigating officers because we take a step-by-step approach while actions are in various forms,” he said today.
Hamid was speaking to reporters after the opening of the new Perlis police contingent headquarters by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail.
Perlis Menteri Besar Azlan Man and Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin were also present.
Hamid said the investigation into the sex video case would be conducted in a professional manner and in accordance with police standard operating procedures.
Yesterday, police arrested Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz to help in the investigation into the case.
“We want to know whether he was forced or made the disclosure voluntarily.
“Who else will be called for their statements to be taken will depend on the progress of the investigation,” he said.
In his speech, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin urged the police to work hard to improve their image since of late there had been many cases of wrongdoings involving police which were exposed in social media and which were exploited by irresponsible people.
“I want all police personnel to learn from this and be responsible for strengthening their identity and positive values to restore the glory of the police force,” he said.
