A syariah probe into a sex video allegedly showing Economic Affairs Minister Azmin Ali will depend on where the alleged offence occurred, said de facto Islamic affairs minister Mujahid Yusof Rawa.
"It (investigations) has a procedure (where both parties will be called) but even then it has to be verified where it (the offence) happened and this is still in the early stages.
"It is up to enforcement (authorities) because under Islamic laws, if something happens in one state, then the jurisdiction falls within that state," he told reporters in Bangi today.
Mujahid said this when asked to comment on the qazaf (false accusation of extramarital sex) report by Azmin's political secretary Hilman Idham lodged with the Federal Territories Islamic Department (Jawi) today.
The report was made following the circulation of lewd video clips purporting showing Azmin and another man.
Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz in a Facebook confession yesterday claimed he was the other man and that he and Azmin were filmed at a hotel in Sandakan, Sabah.
Azmin has denied the allegations as an attempt to end his political career.
Mujahid said Jawi will look into the complaint lodged by Hilman and act accordingly.
Meanwhile, he also lamented the practice of such politics and urged Muslims to stop spreading the videos.
"As a country where Islam is the official religion, we must hold fast to Islamic teachings and not simply make accusations and lower our dignity with gutter politics.
"What is more concerning is that our society is not ashamed to openly and publicly admit to committing sin. This is not only embarrassing but also affects the sanctity of Islam," he said. - Mkini
