Nurul Izzah: Gutter politics video marks a sad day for Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: The sex video of two men, one of whom is purportedly a minister, marks a sad day of Malaysia, says Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah.
"It's a sad day for Malaysia as the sordidness of gutter politics rears its ugly head again," she said in a Facebook post Wednesday (June 12).
Nurul said Malaysia deserved better than the media coverage and allegations surrounding the video and urged Malaysians to condemn the slander.
"It has no other objective than to spell an end to the career, reputation and character of leaders utilising dirty and scurrilous personal attacks and fitna," she wrote.
Nurul, whose father Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was previously embroiled in a similar scandal, said gutter politics must never be a part of Malaysia's political culture.
"We must all unite in condemning such vileness and disassociate ourselves from propagating such filth," she added.
Nurul also voiced her sympathies for the men and their families.
"We must never underestimate nor lose sight of the personal human cost to everyone concerned as a consequence of slander," she said.
"Let's focus instead on issues and things that matter. On making Malaysia better," she added.
Earlier on Wednesday, Muhammad Haziq Abdul Aziz, the senior private secretary to Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, confessed that it was him pictured with the minister in the videos.
"The video was taken without my permission on May 11 during the Sandakan by-election in (his) room at Hotel Four Points," he said in a video on his Facebook page early Wednesday (June 12) morning. - Star
