PAS veep trio win uncontested, Terengganu MB the new face

PAS MUKTAMAR | Three PAS vice-presidents retained their positions uncontested with a new face in the line-up after incumbent Iskandar Abdul Samad declined to accept his nomination to defend his post.
PAS elections committee director Dr Mohamad Fuad Salleh announced that two of the incumbents Idris Ahmad (above, right) and Kelantan deputy chief minister Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah (above, left) defended their posts and won uncontested while Terengganu Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar (above, centre) also won uncontested and thus replaced Iskandar.
Delegates had expected a four-way tussle for the three vice-president posts after Ahmad Samsuri announced his intention to bid for a vice-presidency. This fizzled out with Iskandar not defending his post.
"He (Iskandar) did not withdraw from the contest. He declined to accept the nominations.
"He is eligible to contest but we sent him the nomination letter, he declined to accept it," Fuad told reporters when met at the Sukpa Stadium in Kuantan here as PAS leaders and delegates cast their votes for the party's 18 central committee leaders.
Quizzed further, Fuad clarified that Iskandar had informed him of his decision to not contest the vice-president's post long before the June 12 deadline.

"I did not inform the secretary-general because I'm the only one with the (candidates') names.
"So he (PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan) does not have any information," said Fuad, adding that Iskandar, however, accepted a nomination to run for a central committee post.
Meanwhile, Iskandar said he has no particular reason for declining the nomination to defend his vice-president's post.
"The vice-president must be someone with a high profile. As the Terengganu menteri besar, I think he is someone with a high profile [...]," said the Cempaka assemblyperson.
Fuad also confirmed that party president Abdul Hadi Awang and deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had retained their positions for the 2019-2021 term.
Abdul Hadi today said that all was calm within the party as evidenced by the lack of contests for the top positions in the party this year. - Mkini
