PAS will not discuss sex videos in Parliament

PAS MUKTAMAR | Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said today that no PAS lawmakers will be bringing up the sex videos implicating Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali in the next Dewan Rakyat sitting, which begins on July 1.
Agreeing with Dewan Rakyat Speaker Mohamad Ariff Yusof, the PAS deputy president said his party's stand is in line with Islamic teachings, which state that such vile allegations should not be discussed until proven true.
"This is the party's stand and it is also the view in Islam.
"We will not take part (in any discussion) and will not spread (the videos)," he said at a press conference after launching the 60th PAS Youth Muktamar at Gambang Resort City, Kuantan this morning.
Ariff on Monday said MPs would not be able to bring up the sex videos, as it is against Parliament rules to discuss issues still being investigated by the police.
"Such issues can’t be raised during the Parliament sitting as it could affect the investigation process," he was quoted as saying by The Sun.
DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang had previously asked if MPs would be focused on this issue during the 18-day sitting, instead of on the Independent Public Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC).
Commenting further, Tuan Ibrahim said even if the matter is discussed in Parliament, it would still remain an allegation until proven either by the Syariah or civil courts.
"So I agree that this matter should not be dragged further.
"There is also no need for the media to continue the polemic," he said, adding that the people are also focused on more pressing matters such as cost of living and job opportunities.
Tuan Ibrahim also reiterated that anyone who had confessed to committing such sexual acts should be punished in order to prevent more people from making similar allegations against another person.
"If we don't pay attention to the person who confesses, I'm worried that there will come a time when another person will confess to doing this and that," he said.
Last week, several unknown individuals had leaked the sex video clips allegedly depicting Azmin and Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz (photo) via several WhatsApp groups.
In a ‘confession’ posted on his Facebook account, Haziq claimed to be the person in the clip shown engaging in sexual acts with another individual.
He also claimed that it was Azmin in the clips, and that their alleged tryst was recorded in the minister's hotel room in Sandakan during the by-election last month.
Azmin has described the videos as a nefarious plot to ruin his political career.
The police are investigating the videos and determining if the clips are authentic. - Mkini
