PAS MUKTAMAR | PAS Youth chief Khalil Abdul Hadi today said the party should go beyond pursuing political cooperation and look at opportunities to strengthen control over socio-economic activities.
In his policy speech at the 60th PAS Youth muktamar, Khalil said this was necessary to remedy what he claimed to be concerted attacks against Islam after the 14th general elections last year.
"This cooperation is not only a stepping stone for a political agenda, but it should go far beyond that.
"Cooperation from a socio-economic perspective should be initiated because control of the economy will build material and financial strength, while control of social activities will raise the people's awareness to take responsibility to fight for their own destiny," said Khalil to 761 delegates and other guests gathered at the Bukit Gambang Resort, Pahang.
Beyond looking at new political allies, Khalil stressed his belief that Muslims should strive to build their economic strength until it becomes an advantage for their overall agenda.
"This cooperation must be seen through a larger perspective of building the competency of Malaysian youths as a foundation to create a prosperous nation," said the Batu Buruk assemblyperson.
In his speech, Khalil also underscored several principles that must be held by parties involved in any cooperation with PAS.
Top of the list was that the cooperation must be based on a goal to uphold justice, which Khalid said has a more comprehensive meaning from an Islamic perspective.
"Justice in Islam has a wider meaning as it is not only based on material things but also touches on spiritual matters.
"Justice in Islam goes beyond race or religion and it guarantees the rights of non-Muslims," he said, adding that the cooperation should focus on resolving issues affecting the people.
"The fourth and final principle is sincerity. All parties in this cooperation should attempt to understand the policies and struggles of their allies, try to find the points of similarities."
PAS contested against Harapan and BN in the last GE14 together with its Gagasan Sejahtera allies.
Since then, the party has forged close cooperation with BN in the name of Malay-Muslim unity. - Mkini
