PAS Youth delegate threatens walkout over Zakir Naik student's presence

PAS MUKTAMAR | A PAS Youth delegate from Perlis has threatened a walkout unless party leaders explain their reasons for inviting a student of controversial preacher Zakir Naik to deliver a speech at the 60th PAS Youth Muktamar earlier today.
Perlis PAS Jabatan Amal director Amirul Jufri Mat Saman (above) expressed his displeasure over the invitation to Muhammad Zamri Vinoth Kalimuthu, saying that members in the state were familiar with him.
Amirul Jufri's dissatisfaction with the invitation is believed to stem from an incident surrounding the torching of Perlis mufti Mohd Asri Zainul Abidin's car on March 22.
Following the incident, Perlis police had remanded several Jabatan Amal members to assist in their investigations.
"You all don't know Maza (Asri), you all don't know who is Zamri Vinoth.
"For four days we sat in the lock-up. He is the one who spread slander against us four members of Jabatan Amal Perlis," Amirul Jufri claimed.
He further said that the PAS Youth leadership should have consulted with their members in Perlis before deciding to invite Zamri.
"I represent Perlis PAS Youth to seek an explanation from the muktamar today on why Muhammad Zamri Vinoth was invited to speak.
"We, from Perlis, know him better. If there is no explanation, then all of us delegates from Perlis will walk out of this hall," said Amirul Jufri who stood up with his question during the tabling of the wing's financial report by PAS Youth treasurer Muhtar Suhaili.
After a few minutes, the assembly's permanent chairperson Kamal Ashaari warned Amirul Jufri against making a speech.
PAS is in the midst of holding its annual congress at Bukit Gambang Resort City in Kuantan, Pahang.
Speaking as a special guest earlier today, Zamri said he would be willing to surrender his Malaysian identity card if the government moved to extradite Zakir Naik to India.
He felt saddened to see how Islam has allegedly been attacked in Malaysia, including in Parliament.
"If the government wants to send back Zakir Naik, I am willing to hand over my IC. I am not willing to continue living in Malaysia," Zamri said. - Mkini
