An MIC central working committee member has criticised Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad for prematurely questioning the authenticity of several sex video clips implication a cabinet minister.
RT Rajasekaran said in doing so, the prime minister risked jeopardising police investigations into the case.
“The issue is still being investigated. Why would the PM rush to question the authenticity of the video?
“The investigations cannot be fair if the PM himself doubts the authenticity of the video,” Rajasekaran (photo, above) told Malaysiakini.
He was referring to Mahathir’s dismissal of the video, alleged to feature Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali, as “not genuine”.
Mahathir told reporters that the video was probably “cooked up” as part of a political ploy.
'Let independent commission investigate'
Rajasekaran went on to suggest that the case be handed to an independent commission to investigate, instead of the police and Malaysian Communications And Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
“Honestly, I do not agree with the circulation of such videos. This is not healthy politics. However, once someone has lodged a police report, we too should provide space for investigations. Not blindly deny (the video).
“Since the PM has shed a negative perception on the case, I suggest it be handed to an independent commission, such as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to listen to the claims and to investigate,” Rajasekaran, who is a lawyer, said.
He added that this would also clear the government of any suspicions of a possible cover-up. - Mkini
