Police report lodged against WhatsApp user who spread sex video

A police report has been lodged against the unknown individual who created a WhatsApp group which was used yesterday to spread a sex video purportedly featuring Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali.
The 1 minute and 29 second video came in the wake of three video clips that first appeared on Tuesday morning. All the videos appeared to be set in the same room and featured the same two individuals.
PKR Taman Sri Indah (Balik Pulau) branch chief John Ooh Sin Hwa said yesterday’s video went viral at about 6.45pm, similarly to those the day before, via several WhatsApp groups.
Ooh had received the video in a WhatsApp group created by a user with the number +6011 6119 6918.
"I have come to lodge a report to ask the police to investigate the owner of the number," Ooh said after lodging the report in Balik Pulau, Penang.
Ooh said he had lodged the report as he felt that the perpetrator who spread the videos tried to implicate Azmin in a sex scandal.
On June 11, reporters and PKR personalities were added into two WhatsApp groups, both titled "Jemputan Hari Raya ****", in which the first three video clips were shared.
On June 12, a similar modus operandi was used to share one more video, in WhatsApp groups titled "Azmin Ali Part 2/4".
Santubong PKR Youth chief Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz has since claimed he was one of the individuals in the video.
Haziq was subsequently suspended as senior private secretary to Primary Industries Deputy Minister Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.
Meanwhile, Azmin has strongly denied any involvement in the scandal.
'Malicious and immoral'
Ooh said such an act by the WhatsApp user had "malicious intent to tarnish" the good name of the minister and undermine the credibility of the Pakatan Harapan government.
"This report is lodged because the owner of the mobile number has purposely spread the video to the public via his or her WhatsApp group, this is an immoral act," Ooh said.
Ooh urged the public to lodge police reports if they had received similar video clips.
Ooh also urged the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to investigate the WhatsApp account in question for spreading lies and slander about Azmin.
He pointed to the accounts that had created the WhatsApp groups, one of which listed former premier Najib Abdul Razak as its user name.
"I also believe that the individual responsible for this slander intends to create tension in our society as it purposely used the name Najib Razak in the WhatsApp (account)," he said.
"These wild allegations and slander hurled at Azmin are baseless, as Azmin was not at the location as his accuser had claimed," Ooh added.
Ooh said the slanderous claims against Azmin was a dirty political tactic against the Harapan leadership.
"Azmin is an ethical and good person. We fully support our party deputy president," Ooh added. - Mkini
