Student’s ‘stolen paper’ allegation under probe, says UM

The student says his paper was published last year on Universiti Malaya’s official website.
PETALING JAYA: Universiti Malaya (UM) said it is aware of an allegation by a foreign student that his research paper was “stolen” by one of his two PhD supervisors.
Prof Abrizah Abdullah, dean of the Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology, said the matter has been brought to the attention of the university’s Integrity Unit for investigation.
“I was told that the process is ongoing. As such, I have no further comments.
“We request for the patience of all parties concerned, pending the completion of this investigation,” she told FMT.
Abdulaziz M Ghaleb, from Yemen, had told FMT that his paper was published last year on the university’s official website under the names of the supervisors, but he attributed the alleged theft to only one of them.
Abdulaziz said he contacted the supervisor for an explanation but did not receive a satisfactory response.
He said he then complained to the university’s management and added that he had not heard from them.
Abdulaziz provided FMT with what looked like a thread of email communication between him and the supervisors pertaining to his PhD dissertation.
He said he was waiting for the matter to be resolved so that he could complete his PhD. - FMT
