PETALING JAYA: Unity minister P Waytha Moorthy was rushed to a clinic early this morning, just hours after returning to Putrajaya.
This came after he spent two weeks at an Orang Asli settlement in Kelantan following an outbreak of disease which has so far claimed more than a dozen lives.
“He was unable to attend the Cabinet meeting today and might cancel all events for this week until further notice,” a source close to Waytha told FMT.
Tests are currently being conducted to pinpoint the cause of the illness.
A source told FMT that he has a high fever and flu, and is suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea.
It is not certain whether his illness is linked to claims of water contamination at Kampung Kuala Koh, an Orang Asli village in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
It is understood that Waytha spent at least four days in the village.
A total of 113 people in the village have been hit with measles, with three officially confirmed to have died as a result of the disease.
It has also been reported that another 12 villagers died while travelling from Taman Negara in Pahang to Gua Musang, which could be due to pneumonia.
Post-mortems are being carried out to determine their cause of death. - FMT
