Zahid free to officiate at Umno functions, says Mat Hasan

Even though he is officially on leave from his duties as Umno president, there is nothing to stop Ahmad Zahid Hamidi from officiating at Umno division meetings, said acting party president Mohamad Hasan.

"He is still a division chief and anyone can come to officiate at a party's division meeting if they are invited to do so.

"The question of leaving the president's job does not arise. He is still Bagan Datuk MP, still Bagan Datuk Umno chairperson," Mohamad told reporters during the 65th PAS convention in Kuantan, today.

He said this when asked if Zahid could officiate at the meeting despite having taken a leave of absence from his presidential duties.

Earlier, Malaysiakini was told that Zahid had been invited to officiate at two Umno delegates' meetings for Kepong and Masjid Tanah.

Mohamad said there was nothing to prevent the former deputy prime minister from going wherever he pleased.

"He is still party president, just on leave. He is the legitimate president elected by the members during the 2018 elections," he said. - Mkini
