BUTTERWORTH: Police arrested 24 men after a video footage, showing a group of men attacking a youth, went viral.
Seberang Prai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Asri Shafie said the three-second clip was spread on social media yesterday, with the attack happening at a petrol station in Bagan Ajam here.
"Initial investigation found that the incident occurred after the victim was said to have deliberately sounded his motorcycle exhaust loudly during a religious procession.
"Following the attack, we detained 24 men, aged between 16 and 24, to assist the investigation.
"One of them had two past criminal records," he said.
The case was being probed under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
Mohd Asri urged those with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station or investigating officer Inspector Mohd Nazri Wan Chik at 014-319 0131. - NST
