PELANGAI BY-ELECTION | Perikatan Nasional candidate Kasim Samat, a registered voter in the Pelangai state constituency, fulfilled his duty to vote today.
Kasim cast his ballot this morning for the Pelangai by-election and was one of the earliest voters.
The PN candidate, also known as Cikgu Kasim, arrived at 8.20am at SMK Felda Chemomoi.
The other two candidates, Umno’s Amizar Abu Adam and independent candidate Haslihelmy DM Zulhasli, are not voters in Pelangai.
Speaking to reporters after voting, Kasim said he is confident of his chances today.
According to the former teacher, PN expects good voter turnout today, which would help the coalition secure victory.
“Insya Allah between 65 percent and 75 percent of voters will turn up today,” he said, adding that a 75 percent turnout will be enough for him to cross the finish line before Amizar and Haslihelmy.
The candidate also accidentally campaigned for himself during the door-stop interview when advising voters to carry out their responsibilities.
“To Pelangai folks who are still at home or on your way back, there is still time.
“Be safe on the road, and let’s all return to vote.
“Do not forget to vote for “calon nombor 1’ Perikatan Nasional, Cikgu Kasim,” he said before a journalist pointed out that he was not allowed to campaign past the campaign period.
“Oh, I shouldn’t say this? I’m so sorry, please delete what I said,” Kasim said while laughing nervously.
The Pelangai state assembly by-election in Pahang was held following the death of incumbent Johari Harun in a plane crash in Elmina, Shah Alam, on Aug 17.
In the last general election, the late Johari won the seat by 4,048 votes, defeating Kasim who got 3,260 votes, Ahmed Wafiuddin Shamsuri from Pakatan Harapan (2,031 votes), and Isa Ahmad from Pejuang (65 votes). - Mkini
