Perlis PAS chief declines central committee nomination

 

Perlis Menteri Besar and state PAS chief Mohd Shukri Ramli has declined his nomination for the party’s central committee election.

According to Utusan Malaysia, Shukri said he was “not qualified” for the position.

Shukri is the second high-profile PAS figure to decline nominations after Kedah PAS deputy chief Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Sanusi, who is the Kedah menteri besar, said he was “not ready” and pointed to the fact that he was not even the Kedah PAS chief, a post held by Ahmad Yahaya. Instead, Sanusi is one of Ahmad's three deputies.

PAS will hold its central leadership elections on Oct 20. The top five positions - president, deputy president, and three vice-presidents - were returned unopposed.

Meanwhile, Shukri said the lack of challengers towards the top five party leaders showed that the party had faith in their leadership.

“All positions can be challenged but no one offered themselves,” he said.

Abdul Hadi Awang is the longest-serving PAS president, having held that position since 2002.

Hadi has faced only one challenger for the PAS presidency. In 2015, Hadi retained his position with 928 votes against Ahmad Awang’s 233. - Mkini
