Unhealthy air quality recorded in 14 areas as of noon

Unhealthy air quality has been recorded in 14 areas in Peninsular Malaysia, according to the Environment Department’s (DOE) Air Pollutant Index (API).

All areas in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Malacca under monitoring have recorded API readings above 101 as of 12pm today.

Putrajaya and Taiping, Perak have also recorded readings above 101.

API readings between 101 and 200 are considered unhealthy.

The highest API reading as of 12pm today is 163, which was recorded in Cheras and Seremban.

There has been an increase in unhealthy API readings since last Friday (Sep 29).

The DOE said this is due to transboundary haze billowing from Indonesia.

The Negeri Sembilan State Health Department has since advised the public, especially high-risk groups, to be aware of the air quality levels in their respective areas and take preventive measures to reduce health effects. - Mkini
