KUALA LUMPUR: Transport minister Loke Siew Fook has advised local budget airline MYAirline, which is allegedly facing financial difficulties, to meet the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) to discuss its problems.

Loke said MYAirline needs to meet Mavcom so that the commission can understand the issues the airline is facing and see how it can help.

“We are trying to give them a bit of room but they have to tell us their problems,” he said at a press conference after chairing the National Aviation Consultative Council meeting.

Earlier, New Straits Times reported that the airline was struggling to pay its service providers and workers on time.

On Monday, the airline announced that its CEO Rayner Teo had stepped down due to health reasons.

Meanwhile, Loke said from January until September, airports across the nation had managed some 62.83 million passengers.

The minister added that he expects the figure to return to pre-pandemic levels of about 100 million passengers by next year. - FMT
