Nur-ul Afida, 56, also created history as the first woman to be appointed to the post at the news agency since its establishment in 1967.
She takes over the post from Jamaluddin Muhammad, who was appointed as the agency’s CEO on Oct 19.
In lauding the appointment, Jamaluddin said Nur-ul Afida had extensive experience in the field of journalism and had held several key positions in Bernama, including as deputy editor-in-chief of news services since June this year.
The former Bernama head of strategic planning has been with the agency for 38 years since 1985.
She has also held various roles within different departments and units in Bernama, including the general news desk, Malay subs desk, photo unit, features and strategic writing desk. In addition, she has also contributed her services as a trainer at Bernama’s School of Journalism since 2009. - FMT
