PETALING JAYA: Kedah menteri besar Sanusi Nor has instructed certain media outlets and netizens to remove social media postings that allegedly implicate the state government in a RM100 million fraud case involving the supply of local white rice.
Sanusi warned that legal action would follow if the postings were not taken down within 24 hours, Berita Harian reported.
This comes after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) reportedly uncovered fraudulent activities carried out by a Kedah rice supply company, which secured a contract from a state-owned agricultural company valued at over RM100 million per year to supply rice in the peninsula.
An MACC source said, based on the contract, signed seven years ago, the company obtained a bank loan for RM30 million. The suspect is alleged to have submitted documents containing false information to the bank.
Sanusi said certain news outlets had published incomplete reports that left the wrong impression on the public.
He also said attention was being unfairly drawn to Kedah over the lack of local white rice in the market simply because the state was the main producer in the country.
“Actually, these are all under the jurisdiction of the federal government, especially the agriculture and food security ministry,” he was quoted as saying.
He claimed that the MACC case actually took place in 2016, before he started serving as an assemblyman. - FMT
