HANGZHOU: National track cyclists Suraiya Zamri and Farina Shawati Adnan (pilot) blazed their way to the gold medal in the women’s B 1,000m time trial (visual impairment) at the Asian Para Games today.
Suraiya-Farina were simply in a class of their own, clocking 1:13.43s at the Chun’an Jieshou Sports Centre Velodrome.
Compatriots Azlia Syafinaz Zais and Nurul Suhada Zainal (pilot) clinched the silver with a time of 1:14.08s, while China’s Wang Linhua and Liu Zixin (pilot) clocked 1:14.78s to complete the podium.
Meanwhile, the men’s B 1,000m time trial pair of Khairul Hazwan Wahab and Khairul Adha Rasol (pilot) won silver with a time of 1:05.74s to finish behind Chinese riders Luo Fei and Ma Wenhao who clocked 1:04.32s.
Iranians Heidarabadi Mohammad Dalir and Reza Rashno came in third for the bronze with a time of 1:06.34s.
Today’s gold is the second for the Malaysian contingent after swimmer Nur Syaiful Zulkafli’s triumph in the men’s SB4 100m breaststroke yesterday. - FMT
