Chief secretary: Public service remuneration review almost finalised

Chief Secretary to the Government Mohd Zuki Ali says that a statement will soon be made on the government’s review of the Public Service Remuneration System (SSPA).

He said that the statement would be issued by Public Service director-general Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

“This morning we had a discussion with the prime minister (Anwar Ibrahim) about what we will bring to the cabinet. Insya Allah a statement will be made by (Wan Dahlan), I think it is almost finalised.

“This shows however that the government is prioritising the civil servants because there have been 12 years where there has been no salary increase. Perhaps an adjustment every one to two years.

“This matter isn’t a recent one but has been raised a long time ago. It’s apparent that the government today is brave enough to implement it,” he said.

On Jan 20, the Public Service Department said that the Interim Report 1 on the Review of SSPA was submitted to the prime minister on Jan 19.

When tabling the 2024 budget last year, Anwar said that the full implementation of the SSPA would begin in 2025 following a comprehensive study.

He was quoted last week saying that the outcome of the SSPA study will be announced by the end of this year at the latest and that its findings would be presented to the cabinet within the next three months.
