Education Ministry completes probe into MCKK bullying case

The Education Ministry has completed its internal investigation into a bullying case at Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) in Perak.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek said that the investigation findings have been submitted to the authorities for further action.

“It (the investigation report) has been given to the authorities to proceed with any action, as we have completed (investigations) at the ministry level.

“We shall wait for the kind of action taken by the relevant authorities,” she was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

Previously, Malaysiakini reported that a Form 4 MCKK student was seriously injured when he was attacked by a group of school seniors in September. His family had urged the school to expel those responsible.

Following this, Kuala Kangsar district police chief Omar Bakhtiar Yaacob issued a statement saying that police have recorded statements from the victim, his alleged attackers, and other witnesses to facilitate the probe.

On Nov 8, Perak police chief Yusri Hassan Basri confirmed that the case was being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code and investigators have forwarded their findings to the deputy public prosecutor for further instructions.

Section 323 of the Penal Code stipulates offences related to voluntarily causing hurt. It carries a punishment of imprisonment up to one year, or a maximum fine of RM2,000, or both.

Yusri told Malaysiakini last December that the investigation papers had been submitted to the Attorney-General's Chambers on Nov 30, 2023. - Mkini
