Pilot, co-pilot of light aircraft killed in Klang crash

PETALING JAYA: The pilot and co-pilot of a light aircraft which crashed in Kapar, Klang, this afternoon were killed in the crash.

Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said the bodies of the pilot and co-pilot of the BK160 Gabriel were found in the aircraft’s cockpit, which was buried more than 2m in the ground.

“The fire and rescue department, police and relevant agencies are working to retrieve the bodies before sending them to the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital in Klang,” he said at a press conference at the site of the crash.

According to Hussein, the pilot was in his 30s while the co-pilot was in his 40s.

He said the transport ministry’s Air Accident Investigation Bureau will be leading the probe into the crash.

Earlier today, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia confirmed that the BK160 Gabriel operated by Air Adventure Flying Club departed from the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang for a recreational flight at 1.28pm.

It last made contact with air traffic control at 1.35pm, and there were no distress calls received before it crashed.

Earlier, videos circulating on social media showed debris believed to be from a light aircraft in an oil palm plantation.

Last August, a Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) business jet flying from Langkawi in Kedah to the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang, Selangor, crashed, killing 10 people.

Last September, a US-registered Airbus EC120B helicopter crashed in Bidor, killing the pilot. - FMT
