Police: Delivery rider torched cop car to boost TikTok rating

A food delivery rider torched an auxiliary police unit patrol car in Mutiara Damansara to boost his rating on TikTok, according to the police.

In a statement this evening, Petaling Jaya district police headquarters said the 25-year-old suspect had posted a video of the incident on the short-form video hosting service using his mobile phone.

Earlier, Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohd Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said police are investigating if the man is linked to any political party or extremist group.

This was because anti-government messages were spray-painted at a bus stop near the scene of the incident.

“We arrested the suspect who is believed to be involved in the case at his house in Flora Damansara at about noon (today).

“We also seized several items which are believed to be used by the suspect (in connection with the case),” said Fakhrudin.

The incident, which occurred in the wee hours of the morning, is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code.

Section 435 concerns committing mischief by fire or any explosive substance, intending to cause, or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby cause, damage to any property to the amount of RM50 or upwards.

The offence is punishable with imprisonment which may be extended to up to 14 years, and a fine. - Mkini
