PETALING JAYA: A police raid last night on a homestay in Tanjung Karang used as a transit point for undocumented migrants saw the arrests of 48 Indonesian nationals.
The 9.45pm raid was carried out by the Bukit Aman criminal investigation department’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (D3) unit, with the help of the Kuala Selangor police station, Utusan Malaysia reported.
D3 principal assistant director Soffian Santong said those arrested were aged between six and 51 years and included 14 women and three children.
“The investigation found that two men were responsible as premise owners and traffickers.
“It is believed that the migrants paid RM1,500 to RM3,000 to be smuggled to Indonesia,” he said.
Soffian said the syndicate is believed to have been active since December, bringing migrants to Indonesia by sea. - FMT
