Teacher who criticised education system goes for early retirement

Mathematics teacher Mohd Fadli Mohamed Salleh, who previously went viral for criticising the education system, has announced his decision to retire from teaching.

In a post on Facebook yesterday, the teacher popularly known as Cikgu Fadli said he will be retiring early.

"Everything that begins must end anyway. Thank you all for the wonderful memories during our time together. You are always there in every prayer.

"Allow me to withdraw,” the primary school teacher wrote.

Fadli began teaching in January 2006 at Sekolah Kebangsaan Mambang, Pekan in Pahang and most recently taught at Sekolah Kebangsaan 1 Gombak, Selangor. He is also a social media influencer.

On Oct 16, 2022, Fadli courted controversy when his criticism of the education system and syllabus caused him to face disciplinary action.

He was called by the Education Ministry for a disciplinary hearing, with the risk of being fired or demoted.

However, the Education Support Services Disciplinary Council went on to clear Fadli of wrongdoing.

In a separate post, Fadli clarified that he chose an early retirement not because of disappointment with the Education Ministry, but because he has a different vision on teaching.

“It’s just Malay etiquette. When we visit someone else’s house, we do not do as we please.

"I don't want to be a rude guest to a kind-hearted host. Out of love and respect for the host, I left," he said.

However, Fadli will continue to be involved with the education sector and speak out on matters concerning education.

"It's just a different direction. My voice will always be there," he added. - Mkini
