PETALING JAYA: Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera (Yayasan Peneraju) is looking to foster leaders in various fields as part of its shift from wealth creation to value creation.

Established in 2012 to develop Bumiputera talent in the country, Yayasan Peneraju said it is repurposing its technical and vocational education and training (TVET) programmes to concentrate more on specialist, technology, and business services sectors.

Yayasan Peneraju CEO Ibrahim Sani said that while the agency previously offered programmes based on professions or jobs, it is now focused on reskilling and upskilling Bumiputera talent.

He said this would be key to meeting the needs of both traditional and emerging sectors of the economy, adding that it is also imperative for the Bumiputera community to develop agile responses to the country’s various socioeconomic challenges.

“Yayasan Peneraju’s new approach aims to foster three types of leaders – business leaders, professional leaders and social leaders,” Ibrahim said in a statement.

“The ultimate goal is to address a larger issue – the low participation and control of the economy by Bumiputeras.”

He described finance and business services as old sectors, with energy transition and food security among the emerging sectors that Yayasan Peneraju is now focused on.

To date, Yayasan Peneraju has funded over 16,800 students in primary, secondary and tertiary academic programmes, and more than 31,000 individuals in TVET and high skilled certification programmes.

It has also funded over 11,000 people in business services, finance and accounting professional certification programmes, and more than 7,000 in technology certification programmes. Also, more than 400 were funded for medical specialist programmes.

This year, the agency, which comes under the purview of the economy ministry, is targeting to re-skill and up-skill 6,000 people. - FMT
