KOTA BHARU: Two Orang Asli men were detained last Friday with 2,600 yaba pills, 29 litres of ketum juice and 25kg of ketum leaves.

The arrests were made under Ops Tapis Bersepadu, which started on April 17 and ended yesterday.

Kelantan police chief Zaki Harun said the duo were detained in a hut at Lubok Kasar Sungai Long in Batu Melintang, Jeli, here.

He said an initial investigation revealed that the suspects, aged 22 and 23, were supplying the drugs to oil palm plantation workers in and around the location.

“This is the first case of Orang Asli men being involved in drug distribution in Kelantan,” he said.

The suspects have been remanded for seven days from Saturday.

Zaki also said 1,036 suspects, including two civil servants, a student and 68 foreigners, were arrested during the operation for various drug-related offences.

Police also seized a variety of drugs, including yaba pills, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, erimin 5 pills, psychotropic pills, ketum leaves and ketum juice, worth about RM1.04 million.

In a follow-up operation, the General Operations Force seized two cars in Ketereh on Saturday and recovered 4,400 yaba pills. - FMT
