Papagomo arrested for remarks against Agong - IGP

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain has confirmed the arrest of controversial blogger Papagomo for alleged seditious remarks made against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

He said Papagomo, or his real name Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, was arrested at his home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur around noon today.

“Yes, can (confirm),” said Razarudin when contacted for comment on a social media posting that revealed a short video of the arrest by two police personnel.

He said the blogger will be taken to Dang Wangi district police station for investigation and remand under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

It is understood the arrest was based on a police report lodged against a video posted on social media last night of Papagomo questioning Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s meeting with KK Mart founder Chai Kee Kan, at the height of the controversy on socks printed with the word “Allah”.

It is also learnt that Papagomo had in the same video alleged that the king had instructed Bersatu information committee member Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, to be charged under the Sedition Act.

Chegubard has claimed trial to three counts of inciting and issuing defamatory remarks against the Yang di-Pertuan Agong - the first two cases in Kuala Lumpur related to the KK Mart controversy, while the third heard in Johor Bahru today was linked to an alleged casino project in Forest City. - Mkini
