BUKIT MERTAJAM: A disabled man was found dead with his hands and feet tied and his mouth stuffed with a piece of cloth after a robbery at his home in Guar Perahu, Kubang Semang, here today.
Seberang Perai Tengah police chief Helmi Aris said the 40-year-old victim was a mute.
His mother, in her 70s, was also tied up in a separate room. Her mouth was stuffed with cloth and taped by the robbers.
Police received a report at 8.36am from an octogenarian who found that his house had been ransacked, his son unconscious and his wife tied up.
Helmi said the victim was later confirmed dead by paramedics from Bukit Mertajam Hospital at the scene of the incident. His body was sent to Seberang Jaya Hospital for an autopsy.
Police said two men, armed with parangs, entered the house before tying up the two victims and ransacking the house. They fled with cash and a television set.
Following the incident, police arrested a local man in his 40s to help in the investigations. The suspect has 10 past convictions for involvement in crime and drugs.
Efforts to track down the other suspect are under way.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. - FMT
