Johor Regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim has urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into an alleged incident which took place outside a hotel in Kuala Lumpur.
His Highness also revealed that the incident, in which a disabled e-hailing driver was allegedly assaulted, involved a police security escort team.
“With reference to the incident that happened at St Regis Hotel Kuala Lumpur on May 28, I was informed the following day and I immediately urged the police security escort team to cooperate with investigations.
“I do not condone any illegal action or intimidation. I urge the authorities to investigate thoroughly the incident where a police officer escort is alleged to have committed a harmful act.
“I hope the authorities will take action in accordance with the law and give the victim justice,” he said on X this evening.
Tunku Ismail also said he is aware of an alleged attempt to implicate the royal institution over the matter.
His Highness said that linking the actions of an external security personnel with him and the entire royal institution was uncalled for.
“With this, I urge all quarters to allow the authorities to carry out the investigation,” he added.
Still under probe
Earlier, Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Mohd Isa said the case is still being investigated.
“It is not within our power (to close the case), we have to refer to the deputy public prosecutor’s office first,” he told Malaysiakini.
Previously, it was reported that the 46-year-old alleged victim had filed a police report claiming that the assault took place when an escort of Tunku Ismail had instructed him to move his vehicle.
The man was said to be waiting for passengers at the time.
Federal Criminal Investigation Department chief Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which relates to voluntarily causing hurt.
Rusdi later revealed that the alleged victim had lodged a second report on the same night stating that the matter had been resolved and he did not wish to prolong the case.
This led to various quarters calling for the investigation to continue on the grounds that there is no settlement in a criminal case. - Mkini
