Dr M seeks Anwar's help to recover 'stolen billions'

Dr Mahathir Mohamad is prepared to donate the billions of ringgit he has been accused of stealing but is seeking Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s assistance.

Since the former premier claims to have not seen the loot and is clueless about its whereabouts, he is hoping that his successor can shed some light.

“Anwar said those who stole billions should bring it back and help the poor Malays. I am willing to bring back 100 percent of the funds which I have been accused of amassing and donating all of it to the poor.

“But Anwar needs to tell me where the money is,” he added in a social media post this evening.

The 98-year-old politician also said if the loot is in Switzerland, he is willing to go with Anwar to the bank.

“If I have an account in this bank. I will withdraw all the money and return to Malaysia. One hundred percent of the money will be given to the Malays.

“But if I have no bank accounts there (Switzerland) or anywhere (else), is Anwar prepared to answer in court on what is the basis for the allegation that I have billions of stolen funds?

“If he is not willing, (he should) stop making unfounded allegations,” he added.

MACC probe

In April, MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki revealed that Mahathir is being investigated whereas his sons, Mukhriz and Mirzan, have been served with notices to declare their assets spanning several decades.

Yesterday, Azam said the deadline for the brothers to declare their assets has been extended.

In May last year, Anwar, who has been sued for defamation by Mahathir, said past Malaysian leaders should have not abused their positions to enrich themselves or their relatives.

The prime minister said these leaders should share half their wealth with the Malays to help the community. - Mkini
