HULU SELANGOR: Identical twins Chan Sher Er and Sher Ni were among the early voters who came out to fulfill their civic duty at the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election today.

Aged 25, the pair arrived before the polling centre at SJKC Khing Ming opened at 8am.

They were delighted to find out that Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao also has a twin sister, Sock Ying.

“I was surprised to see that one of the candidates running is also a twin like us,” said Sher Ni, who is the older of the twins, when approached by FMT.

Meanwhile, Sock Tao told reporters at the polling centre that Sock Ying had been assisting her in the campaign.

A total of 39,269 voters are eligible to cast their votes in the by-election at the 18 polling centres.

All the polling centres will remain open until 6pm, except for the one at SJKC Bukit Fraser, where 40 voters are eligible to cast their votes. The centre will close at 2pm.

The Election Commission reported that 18.05% of the eligible voters had cast their vote as of 10am.

Last Tuesday, 97% or 769 police and military personnel and their spouses cast their ballots in early voting.

The by-election is a four-cornered fight involving Pang, Khairul Azhari Saut (Perikatan Nasional), Hafizah Zainuddin (Parti Rakyat Malaysia) and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

The seat fell vacant following the death of Pakatan Harapan assemblyman Lee Kee Hiong, 58, of DAP on March 21 from cancer.

In the state election in August last year, Lee defeated challengers from PN, PRM and Muda with a majority of 4,119 votes to retain the seat for the third consecutive term. - FMT
