KUALA LUMPUR: Tun Musa Hitam today launched the book by YM Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, written by Datin Zinitulniza Abdul Kadir, titled "Ku Li: Memoir 205," which, among other things, includes the intense "battle" between the two of them when vying for the post of Umno deputy president in 1981.
Musa's agreement to officiate the launch is considered unique, besides evoking nostalgia between the two political figures.
This is due to their close relationship, including with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the leadership era of the late Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, before the "1981 tragedy" highlighted in this book took place, subsequently changing much of the nation's political history.
Containing 15 chapters, this book shares various behind-the-scenes stories from Tengku Razaleigh's service history, helping the nation's top leadership build Malaysia since 1962.
This occurred after the first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman, persuaded him to sacrifice his second degree in London to join Umno to reorganise strategies to recapture Kelantan, which had fallen to Pas in the 1959 General Election.
This book shares many stories previously unknown to the public, including Razak and his deputy Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman's mission to send Tengku Razaleigh to China in 1971 when he was 34 years old. - NST
