Fadhlina: Student development needs to be evaluated holistically

The development of students needs to be viewed holistically, including taking into account academic studies, co-curriculum activities, and their potential in other fields, said the Education Ministry.

Its minister Fadhlina Sidek said the National Level Co-Curriculum Carnival (Kokum Carnival) is among the ministry’s efforts to ensure that student achievement and development align with academic excellence and other areas as well.

She said the involvement of students in exploring fields related to innovation and creativity is important to their overall development.

“I am optimistic. We should not just look only at one aspect of education. Therefore, the Co-Curriculum Carnival is one of the ministry’s efforts to ensure the development of students... the development of children goes hand in hand not only in academics but in other potentials,” she told reporters when officiating Kokum Carnival 2024 in Nilai yesterday.

Fadhlina also said that the ministry has created various special committees to set the direction for education reform in the country.

“My main focus is to ensure educational reform is carried out smoothly. We ask all interested parties to come together with the MOE to discuss appropriate programmes because education issues involve everyone and all views are welcome,” she said.

She added that the ministry introduced the Parliamentary Follow-up Programme to solve the issues of dilapidated schools, school maintenance, and student development.

Also present at the event were Education director-general Azman Adnan and Negeri Sembilan Educational Department director Roslan Hussin.
