Grass cutter hurt after shot with air rifle in Kota Kinabalu

KOTA KINABALU: Police have detained a 22-year-old man after he allegedly shot another man with an air rifle at a housing area in Luyang here.

The 22-year-old victim was resting with two other co-workers on Sunday (May 19) after cutting grass in the area when at about 9.30am felt a sharp pain in his right arm.

"The victim also saw there was blood and felt a sharp pain on the right rib as well," said Kota Kinabalu police chief Asst Comm Kasim Muda.

"The man claimed he did not hear a shot during the incident as the grass-cutting machine was still running," he said.

ACP Kasim said police subsequently arrested the suspect and also seized several air rifles as well as three homemade kerambit (curved knives).

"The suspect will be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code (for attempted murder) as well as Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 (for possession, sale, buying or distributing imitation weapons)," he said in a statement on Monday (May 20). - Star
