Hardware store probed for allegedly selling nails at 20sen each


KOTA KINABALU: A hardware store is being investigated for allegedly selling nails at 20 sen each.

A team from the Sabah Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry led by its enforcement chief Azdy Zukkry John inspected the outlet at Botition in the Sandakan district on Tuesday (May 21).

Azdy said they issued a goods verification information notice under Section 21 of the Price Control and Anti-Profitability Act 2011 to the store owner, a foreigner in his 40s.

He added that the owner was ordered to submit documents related to the sale and purchase of the one-inch (2.5cm) "cement nails" within two days.

According to Sabah Community Development and People's Well-being Minister Datuk James Ratib, the nails were supposed to be sold at RM1 for eight.

Azly said action was also taken against five operators after checks on 10 shops in Botition and Sapi Nangoh.

He said they were issued compound notices amounting to RM1,000 for various offences such as failing to display prices and using tampered measuring equipment.

Azdy also said that items worth over RM1mil were seized in 55 cases between January and May this year and RM6,700 in compound fines collected over the same period. - Star
