KKB BLOG | Dad and 2 kids drown, candidate to visit family

DAY 9 | It’s the ninth day of the 14-day campaigning period for the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election before voters head to the polls on May 11.

We will report from time to time from the ground.

Dad and 2 kids drown, candidate to visit family

5.00pm: Kuala Kubu Baharu - A 43-year-old father, his daughter, 9, and son, 6, drowned at Sungai Balak in Batang Kali today.

The victims and other family members were having a picnic earlier in the afternoon.

According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department, the incident happened around 1pm.

Firefighters recovered their bodies some 30m downstream (above) at 1.35pm.

Following the incident, Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao cancelled her 4pm campaign activity to visit the family of the victims at the Kuala Kubu Bharu Hospital.

She was initially scheduled to be at a football match jointly organised by Rasa Football Club and DAP leader Hannah Yeoh, who is also the youth and sports minister.

Cops nab 2 over truck fiasco

3.35pm: Hulu Selangor - Police have arrested two men in their 60s over a truck bearing portraits of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as well as Pakatan Harapan flags that was spotted in Kuala Kubu Baharu today.

Hulu Selangor district police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim says they have also impounded the truck.

However, Faizal did not specify if the duo arrested had any political affiliations.

The case is being investigated under Section 4A of the Election Offences Act and the Sedition Act.

Pang in good health, says doctor

1.20pm: Kuala Kubu Baharu, Selangor - Pakatan Harapan candidate Pang Sock Tao attends the Hulu Selangor Civic Health Awareness carnival.

She also took a blood pressure test and a blood sugar test. Carnival organiser Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan says the blood test shows that Pang is healthy.

“Her health is very good. Not only the level of education but the level of health is also good.”

The carnival is organised by SP Care, a private company with a network of clinics in Hulu Selangor. It was attended by more than 1,000 people.

‘This is why Indian problems don’t get resolved’

1pm: Former Klang MP Charles Santigo has reminded the people that he wants the Madani government of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to succeed.

He said that after he had tweeted that “there is a disconnect between the Selangor government and Indians” some have attempted to create the false impression he was against the prime minister.

“This is exactly why Indian problems do not get resolved in the country.

“Remember not too long ago when I campaigned ferociously for @anwaribrahim? Despite being dropped from the race, I stood staunchly behind Harapan. I asked people to vote for Harapan. I remain the same person,” said Charles in a brief statement.

He added that being critical of the government wasn’t a crime.

“I want Harapan to do better. If you read my tweets carefully, without an agenda, you will see I want Anwar’s government to succeed.

“So, instead of politicking to score quick brownie points, let’s go to the ground to listen to the grievances of the Indians. And let’s ensure those aspirations form policies that will actually uplift them. - Mkini
