Lodge police report if you fear for your safety, footballers told

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said a police report would make it easier for the authorities to protect footballers and put them under surveillance.

PETALING JAYA: Footballers who fear for their safety following the attacks on three players have been advised to lodge police reports immediately.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said a report would allow for investigations to be carried out right away and prevent similar attacks from recurring, Bernama reported.

He said a police report would make it easier for the authorities to protect footballers and put them under surveillance.

“Therefore, I urge any football player who thinks his safety is under threat or it feels like he is being followed or even stalked to lodge a report at the nearest police station,” he was quoted as saying.

Razarudin was commenting on home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail’s call for police to enhance security measures following the attacks.

Two days ago, former national and Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) skipper Safiq Rahim became the third footballer to be attacked within a week.

Safiq, who was driving along Jalan Sri Gelam here, was approached by two men on a motorcycle, one of whom used a hammer to smash his rear windscreen.

Earlier this week, Selangor FC winger Faisal Halim was splashed with acid at a shopping mall. He is recovering from fourth-degree burns.

The week before, Terengganu FC winger Akhyar Rashid was attacked by two robbers after returning home from training. - FMT
