MACC special operations division senior director Azmi Kamaruzaman denied that a group of officers from the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya had been in Perlis the past few days.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has denied that five Perlis assemblymen will be detained to assist in a probe into Perlis menteri besar Shukri Ramli’s son.

The five PAS and Bersatu assemblymen were allegedly mentioned by Shukri’s son during the course of MACC’s investigation into the alleged falsification of documents related to claims for infrastructure projects worth RM600,000.

In a Sinar Harian report, MACC special operations division senior director Azmi Kamaruzaman also denied that a group of officers from the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya had been in Perlis the past few days after receiving new information about the case.

“For now, these claims are not true,” he said.

Shukri’s son and four others were released on MACC bail on April 26.

Azmi said the probe was likely to be completed next week.

Shukri spent nearly eight hours at MACC’s headquarters in Putrajaya on April 31, with MACC chief commissioner Azam Baki revealing that Shukri was detained and released on MACC bail after he had his statement recorded in connection with an alleged abuse of power case.

When met by reporters as he was leaving the building, Shukri claimed to be in the dark about why he was called in for questioning.

“For various cases. I’m not sure myself,” he said when asked why he was summoned to the MACC’s headquarters. - FMT
