Meta has restored Facebook posts from local media covering Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s meeting with Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh after it took them down on Monday.
“Two posts were removed in error and have now been restored,” Reuters quoted a Meta spokesperson as saying in an email to the portal.
Yesterday, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil slammed Meta for removing social media posts on Anwar’s meeting with the Hamas delegation, led by Ismail, in Qatar three days ago.
He said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission would send Meta a letter to request its explanation on the matter.
The posts removed were from Malaysiakini and Sinar Harian’s Facebook.
Malaysiakini was told its post went against community standards on dangerous individuals and organisations. The post was restored around yesterday evening.
Another news portal, Malaysia Gazette, had its Facebook account deleted after posting content about Palestine last month. It was forced to create a new account.
Previously, Meta had taken down posts from Anwar’s official social media accounts regarding the premier’s speech at the Solidarity with Palestine rally at Axiata Arena in October last year. - Mkini
