Nine Malaysian passengers on the Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight that made an emergency landing in Bangkok, Thailand, yesterday, were injured with one in critical but stable condition.
The Foreign Ministry said all nine, including a crew member, are receiving medical attention in hospitals in Bangkok due to physical and internal injuries.
“The (Malaysian) Embassy has been coordinating with local authorities and hospitals, with consular officers visiting Malaysians who were admitted to several hospitals in Bangkok to provide consular assistance,” it said in a statement today.
They are under surveillance and awaiting their medical results, it added.
A total of 16 Malaysians were on board the SIA flight from London to Singapore when it made an emergency landing after severe turbulence en route, causing several injuries and one death.
Suvarnabhumi Airport director Kittipong Kittikachorn said a 73-year-old English man had a heart attack and died on board.
The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft carrying 211 passengers and 18 crew was diverted to Bangkok and landed at 3.45pm local time yesterday.
SIA said it was cooperating with Thai authorities to provide medical aid while sending a team to Bangkok to provide additional assistance. - Mkini
