No VIPs involved in cookout at petrol station, four to face charges

Four people will face charges tomorrow over an incident where a group purportedly cooked instant noodles at a petrol station in Genting Highlands, according to a report.

Bentong police chief Zaiham Mohd Kahar said that none of the 15 arrested were children of VIPs.

The four people - comprising a man and three women aged between 23 and 24 - will be charged at the Bentong court in Pahang tomorrow morning, he said.

The others have been freed and will be appearing as witnesses in the case.

“They will be charged under Section 336 of the Penal Code (acts which endanger life or the personal safety of others),” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.

An offence under this section is punishable with up to three months imprisonment, a fine up to RM500, or both.

Previously, a video was circulated online showing a group of youths cooking instant noodles with woks, portable gas stoves, and other camping equipment near a petrol station.

According to media reports, netizens criticised those involved in the incident as being reckless due to the use of open flames near the petrol station potentially posing a fire hazard.

It was alleged that two of the people involved were children of a deputy minister.

The police subsequently arrested 15 individuals aged 23 to 28 on Saturday to facilitate investigations. - Mkini
